Sorbet in San Jose

Knitting

Here’s one of my next projects, Sorbet, from Classic Elite. Unfortunately my boobs don’t look like that. On second thought, I am GLAD they don’t look like that. Have you heard of this new invention, the strapless bra?

Wendy at Knit and Tonic was my inspiration for this top (she is so funny, I love her blog), even though she didn’t like the final results. Maybe I should ask her about the pitfalls before I start. I bought Loganberry; it’s dark purple. Looks slinky, won’t be wearing this to the office!

Tomorrow I am off to San Jose, CA, for a short business trip. Yay, away from this heat for a couple of days. Back on Friday night, when I hope to see Eric Hutchinson at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA. Someone asked my what kind of music Eric sings. I am not sure there is a "genre" other than folk. But it's not Arlo-Guthrie-folk. He sings and plays guitar. And is cute and funny, a winning combination!

And then I head to Rhode Island on Sat. for a few days at my parents’ house. My younger brother will be down for a few days w/my nieces and nephew so that will be really fun. I love being an aunt!

This is called “cheap vacation.” I dumped a whole lotta money replacing the hardwood floors in my condo a couple of months ago. It looks great, making my place more soundproof (kiss my a**, Vivien!), and the piece de la resistance is the little tiny kitchen. I replaced the grungy linoleum w/wood flooring and it looks so beautiful. It feels like a brand new home!

Dating
Nothing too new here. I have a couple of match.com prospects in the queue, D. and R. (actually he's from craigslist). D., from Friday, IMed me today. That was a surprise. I am going to be away for about a week so that is going to hold things up a bit. They will just have to wait for me!

Beets me

Food
I bought a share in a CSA (community supported agriculture) garden this summer and fall. Every Tuesday I pick up my bag of organic veggies at the drop spot in Tenleytown. I was all excited to support an organic garden and try some new veggies (I get what the farmer is currently growing). Well, it's been a bit of a disappointment so far. Lots of lettuce and greens (collard greens, dandelion greens, swiss chard, sorrel), a few carrots that where the size of my index finger, did I mention the greens...

But part of this was to introduce new things to my diet. Today it was beets. Never liked them as a kid, probably because they came out of can, but I am always game to try something new. So I found a simple recipe on foodtv.com for a grilled beet salad with walnuts and goat cheese and made it this afternoon. The goat cheese and walnut combination is always a winner, but the beets...not so much. Not necessarily a failure, but a lesson learned. I still don't like beets. Next!

Knitting
My current knitting project:
Ribbon X-back from Knitty.com
Yarn: Schachemayr "Toy"
Color: hellblau (white and blue strands)
I really love the halter top design. Flattering on everyone. The yarn is 100% cotton and pretty thick, but worked well for this pattern. Pictures soon. More projects, too.

Dating
Did I mention that I am an online dater? I have been on-and-off match.com for a couple of years now. Belive me, I was the LAST person you would have expected to post a personal ad on the Internet, but after some prodding and cajoling from a few friends, I did it figuring what did I have to lose? And I have no regrets. It has been a lot of fun, I have met tons of interesting, nice, normal men. Some are a date or two, some for longer. And I have made a couple of good friends, too.

Currently in the queue I have D., G., R., and T. On Friday I met D. for the first time. He is a match.com virgin so he had a lot of questions for me. (I have threatened to write a book about my experiences, kind of a "users manual" to get everyone up to speed quicker.) He was a very nice, decent guy, we had plenty to talk about, he's good looking. But (there's always a "but" ;) ) we are very different people. For example, he doesn't like the city, and I live in the city. I love living in D.C., expecially as a single person. The suburbs make me jittery, all those minivans and chain restaurants. So we'll see if he calls again. I usually leave it up to the guy to call for a second date. I usually get a jibe when we make our good-byes, but I could read D.

I talked to T. again today, and then he called back to see if I wanted to meet for a beer in Dupont Circle today. I let the call go to voicemail, not really interested in him. Our two phone conversations have been strained, like we are talking at each other, and he talks in cliches (and I quote "...and I dove into a new book last night which is always great." Who talks like that!?! Kripes.)

So that new reality show "Hooking Up" has been very interesting for me to watch. Meeting people online is still kind of weird to me. But it has been a lot of fun.

It's time

I have been thinking about doing this for a while now. It's Saturday, I am home. What the hell, nothing to lose. Welcome to my blog. Thanks for coming by.

I really enjoy reading knitting blogs, and a few others. It's a great way to share ideas, funny stories, things that are annoying you...

Hope you come back when I have more to say!
